forumZFD becomes Pro Peace

Peace organization launches into challenging times with a new name and clear message

Pro Peace is the new name of the Forum Civil Peace Service (forumZFD) as of today. One of Germany's largest peace organizations is thus setting an example: We are facing up to the current challenges for peace work, we will strengthen our commitment.

“The world is changing rapidly and the demands on peace work are enormous; we want to actively meet them. This is what we stand for with our new name: Working for peace with passion, a clear stance and the expertise of more than 150 active peace specialists in 13 countries. Many of the people we work with risk their lives every day to denounce injustice and promote dialogue. Their work shows that peace is possible - but it needs our joint effort, our solidarity and a strong voice,” explains Alexander Mauz, Chairman of the Board.

The organization is one of the pioneers of peace work and civil conflict transformation in Germany. “In our Forum Ziviler Friedensdienst, we have been developing the idea of a Civil Peace Service out of the peace movement since 1996 and have successfully implemented it politically with many partners. We want to build on this and continue it,” explains Mauz. But today, war and violence have once again become part of everyday life. The world order established after the Second World War is breaking down piece by piece and fueling undreamt-of spirals of armament. With the new name Pro Peace, the organization is showing that it wants to actively oppose this trend towards more discord.

The international non-profit organization with programmes and partners in 13 countries promotes the non-violent handling of conflicts and opens up ways to actively shape a more just and peaceful future. To this end, Pro Peace advises and supports civil society actors in their commitment to peace and non-violence, implements joint projects and works with them to promote a sustainable peace policy. Several thousand peace experts from all over the world have already learned the basics and methods of peace work at Pro Peace's Academy for Conflict Transformation.

The organization has also been active in Germany for many years in conflict counselling for communities and in peace education. Pro Peace will continue to strengthen these projects and actively counteract the increasing division in our society.

“We will not be able to achieve this necessary departure for peace work on our own. Join Pro Peace, actively support our campaigns, help us with a regular donation or even with a membership,” the Pro Peace chairman invites people to get involved.
