Who we are
Committed to Peace
Pro Peace empowers people all around the globe in their commitment to peace. As an international non-profit organisation, we foster non-violent conflict transformation and pave ways to build a more just and peaceful future.
Founded in 1996 by German peace and human rights groups in response to the Balkan Wars under the name Forum Civil Peace Service, Pro Peace is today active in 13 countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Civil society actors who are committed to peace and non-violence in conflicts form the focus of our work. We advise and support them, collaborate on projects and campaign together for sustainable peace policies. Since 2006, we use our expertise in international conflict transformation to advise and support local communities in Germany.
We firmly believe that building peace can be taught and learned. Hence we offer training and courses for professional international peace and conflict work at our Academy for Conflict Transformation. We also run peace education programmes for children and young people.
Pro Peace is a government-recognised member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium and a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative. We have been honoured with numerous awards for our peace work, including the Göttingen Peace Prize and the Reconciliation Prize of the Klaus Jensen Foundation.
